02 Mar A Burst of Flavor
As I quickly grow weary of the gray winter sky, my palate begins to crave the bright flavors of spring and summer – ones that bring my senses back to life and offer a veritable taste of sunshine to my lips.
There is little in life as refreshing as a burst of citrus; even a mere whiff can summon me from the doldrums of fatigue. It’s one of the reasons why a citrus candle is never far from my desk.
With the goal of bringing us all back to life a bit, we’ve added some brightness to our March menu, offering you a touch of respite should you, like us, live in a wintry climate. Our Main Ingredient is the sunny orange, whose juicy delights can be savored even as the snow falls, thanks to growers in warmer climes.
Also high on my list of personal favorites is the decadent avocado, whose silky texture and tempting flavor often inspire me to cast butter aside. Sometimes I’ll split open a pita, toast each half until crisp and then spread them with mashed avocado; simple, yet one of my ultimate afternoon snacks. We will officially delve into the Indulgence of this erotic, verdant fruit later in March, so do prepare for a touch of green that has naught to do with the Irish.
Of course, after St. Paddy’s Day we head into the spring holidays, so this month’s Mise en Place will feature an Easter feast should that be part of your calendar. If a smaller gathering is in order, don’t forget to take a look at February’s Celebration Dinner for more ideas.
On the podcasting front, I am delighted to offer a sneak preview of my pet project, Bachelor’s Boot Camp™, on Food Philosophy episode 42. My arsenal is now in its fine-tuning stages, and you can listen in on my shopping excursion with victim … er … Bachelor #1, an impish gent by the name of Matt who seems to live for fighting me every step of the way. Little does he know that such behavior only steels my resolve.
I shall leave no stone unturned until every neophyte male cook in America is equipped with the skills to thrill via the taste buds, so you gentlemen out there better buckle up, because I’m comin’ for ya.
I’m so looking forward to this grand adventure – think how much more sensuality could be unleashed in this fine country of ours should my efforts be successful. I don’t think I need to emphasize how much that is needed.
