Testing…Testing

One thing that drives me mental is when I can remember a taste from years ago, but my recipe and notes do not yield the flavors echoing in my mind.

When I was in high school, my boyfriend’s grandmother made the most exquisite “Danish Puff,” a light, fluffy pastry that is loaded with butter and decadent delights. I remember many a holiday where the puff vanished before coffee was finished.

I tried to recreate it yesterday, as I’d like to craft miniature versions for my family’s Christmas Dinner, but it came out…awful. Of course, I freely admit that pastry is not my specialty (a fact supported by a few birthday cake-esque recipients), but this is an easy recipe. Really easy. I must have overworked the dough, or accidentally doubled something. It’s baffling.

Needless to say, the recipe is headed to the test kitchen, where better specialists than I can help to figure out the problem. As soon as we do, I will post the recipe, as it is a treat not to be missed. (At least that’s how *I* remember it to be.)

Hopefully we can achieve that goal by Christmas. Oh, come on, we have a whole week yet.
