27 Jul Back to the Future
In doing my research for our series on the Gastronomic Greats, I am revisiting my past with a new set of eyes. When I watched Julia Child as a young girl, and then went on to read MFK Fisher and Brillat-Savarin, a whole new world opened up for me: one that promised delights around every corner.
I thought that perhaps this time around, I would be less enthralled with what they had to say — perhaps more jaded at the discoveries I have made during my years in the culinary world. To my surprise and delight, however, I find that their words have an even greater impact on me given all that I have seen, and my appreciation for their passion has taken on a more profound meaning. In each of these passionate gourmands, there is a joy to be found in the simplicity of food prepared well, and in the art of eating. It seems that my gurus set me on the right path after all.
