Farmers Market Incites Food Frenzy

I. Love. The Farmers Market.

I should also know better than to shop there when I’m hungry. The sight of such vivid colors and smells is dangerous for someone like me — I go into a bit of a frenzy trying to decide what flavors will satiate my palate in the immediate future (read: dinner).

I prefer the European method for food shopping, where I decide a la minute what to prepare; I hate the thought of planning my meals too far ahead of time. I must get this from my mother, because all throughout my childhood, she went to the supermarket every single day to buy something for dinner. I thought she was nuts. Now I see she’s just Scottish.
During today’s foray into fruit and vegetable heaven, I was captivated by some sassy little apricots that I am determined to poach and serve this evening with a sweet-yet-pungent, apricot-laced Stilton. That, of course, will follow a dinner of steak and ciabatta (both grilled, the latter drizzled with olive oil I received from a friend’s orchard and basil from the garden), and a recipe for August that I can’t tell you about yet. Fridays are dangerous. But it’s all in the name of keeping these pages alive and well, so I shall do my duty in the name of gastronomy. Want to come over for dinner? 🙂
