13 Feb Paper Hearts Be Damned
So, tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. Yippee.
For those of us who are single, it can be a day of depression, pity parties, and the like — if we allow it to be. However, I will say from experience that the day can be equally disappointing with a partner, particularly if one should mistakenly choose to date a person with the attitude of “It’s Valentine’s Day — here’s a Whitman’s Sampler and a red rose. Oh, and I love you.” If one is simply going through the motions of the day, with the requisite dinner out, why bother? Haven’t we overhyped enough in this country? Bring on the meaning, not the paper heart.
I like what Karen Resta has to say in “O Solo Mio!” as it echoes my sentiments precisely, though thankfully I have not experienced her insta-date.
As I said in last week’s podcast, cooking for someone is extremely sensual and gratifying. Applying that in context, why not do it for yourself on Valentine’s Day? Self-love is the most important kind on earth, after all, and *should* be celebrated. You can be damn sure I’ll be eating something tasty tomorrow for dinner. 🙂
