Herbs for the Kitchen Garden

Herbs for the Kitchen Garden

This time of year is like no other — time for planting, basking in the sunshine and bringing out the warm-weather wardrobe (we won’t talk about the sneezing and sinus issues).

We’re nearly ready to plant the Gilded Fork kitchen garden, and we’ve looked to none other than Papa Geno to help us make it happen. His expertise has enabled him to create one of the best sources for herbs in the U.S., and we are proud to have him as our purveyor of all things herb-ish.

To celebrate the sunshine, we’ve put together some goodies for you, including our own customized collections of culinary lavender (yes, there are non-culinary kinds), essentials for any cook’s garden, herbs for tea, and specialty selections for Italian and French cooking. Best of all, there are smaller-sized pots available for indoor gardens, as we know city slickers aren’t left with many choices. (Since Papa Geno started his own collection on a NY city rooftop, he hasn’t forgotten that some of us have acreage issues.)

Planting time is upon us, so peruse and purchase before you find yourself searching the local supermarket for fresh lavender (we wish you luck with that one!). I, for one, will be enlisting the help of the Mother and Sister for this, as the only thing I have managed to keep alive is a fern named Herbert who has managed to survive my rampant neglect for more than five years. Clearly the plant is a plastic hybrid, as I don’t understand his resilience. Perhaps I’ll place him in the garden so he can offer moral support to the others.
