Congratulations to James Beard Award Winner Jean-Louis Gerin

We’ve been very absent the past couple of days, as it was Beard Awards weekend and we were hopping about town seeing old friends and meeting lots of new ones. Chefs’ Night Out at the new Chinatown Brasserie was a blast, with lots of bubbly (and crowds to match), and I had the pleasure of attending the event with my dear friend Jean-Louis Gerin, who never ceases to be a fun and charming companion. (Plus, how can one resist that adorable accent?)

Even better, last night Mark and I were there to celebrate with him as he sported his new medal as Best Chef Northeast, which is not only long-deserved, but a testament to his place among the culinary stars of the industry.

Jean-Louis and his wife Linda have dedicated themselves for more than two decades to creating a family-run operation that pursues excellence in every way, and to see them recognized for their magnificent work was one of those moments I’ll treasure forever. I’m still giddy about it.

Congratulations to both of them, as well as Cedric their sous chef and the entire staff at Restaurant Jean-Louis— may they all bask in this wonderful spotlight and enjoy the rewards to come. Coincidentally, our Behind the Toque piece on Jean-Louis will run this week at the Gilded Fork, so stay tuned for more on his food philosophy. If you missed it, I interviewed him recently on the Food Philosophy podcast, where you can get a first-hand experience of his spirit and charm.
