24 Mar Congratulations Hank Shaw!
It’s not every day that I get to celebrate this kind of news, so I’m a little giddy. I’m delighted to announce that Hank Shaw’s Hunter Angler Gardener Cook just received its second nomination for a James Beard Award as Best Food Blog, as well as an IACP nomination for the same. I’m not alone in thinking that the accolades are well-deserved, as you’ll see from the comments in his announcement.
Hank reached out to me years ago, when Culinary Media Network was still The Gilded Fork, to share a piece on his quest for the perfect coq au vin. We just happened to republish The Joy of Coq-ing last week, so the timing was a happy coincidence. His other piece, Sleepless for Salami, resulted in me inviting myself to dinner. Or perhaps a quick snack.
Hank and his partner in crime, Holly (who takes some of my favorite food porn photos) have turned hunting, foraging and preparing game into a form of art, and from nettles to wild boar, they are always cooking up something scrumptious. I hope they know that the next time I find myself on the west coast, I will indeed be on the front step — with wine in hand, of course.
I’m also happy to say that Hank is a web design client of mine. We recently finished a complete redesign of HAGC to showcase his work, and I’m very proud that the world at large is now seeing the result of those efforts. Please join me in rooting him on, and congratulating him for a job well done!
