ReMARKable Palate #232: Raw Food For Real People
Chef Mark speaks with Rod Rotondi, a raw food chef & cookbook author, who leads retreats for people wanting to learn how to transition to a raw foods diet. Rod is the owner of Leaf Organics in Southern California, with a line of prepared raw foods available in grocery stores in California and soon other parts of the country. His book is called Raw Food For Real People, and his approach is as refreshing as his foods.
Theme Song: “Go Fish”, by Big Money Grip, from the Podsafe Music Network.

The information was basic and well presented. Sorry I didn’t find anything surprising but would like to qualify for the free book. I’ve been learning about the raw food lifestyle for many years now.

i like the idea that we already eat raw things and that we can begin by expanding on that. not sure i’m going to be eating raw potatoes though!

Great interview! I always thought of raw food as a form of deprivation, but it was nice to hear Rod emphasize how vibrant raw foodists feel on this diet. Also, his perspective that one doesn’t have to be “all-raw or nothing” has made me want to incorporate more raw food into my own diet. Thanks!

I am sooooooooo glad that I don’t have to go 100% to be a raw foodie. In an active lifestyle, and ‘cooking’ for one, this can be difficult to achieve.
The focus on processed food validates my advocacy against processed food — I call it corporate food — as I believe that the high consumption of corporate food is the foundation of our health and obesity crises.
Thanks for spreading the word, Rod!!!

thanks Rod! won’t my sceptical, suspicious scientifist son who doubts the nutritional benefits of organic food be surprised when I tell him that wild food is evolutionarily stronger !! and I didn’t know that sprouting starts the digestive process. we ARE what we eat! entertaining and comprehensive interview with many compelling reasons to go more raw. i’m looking forward to getting the book…

hi rod,
i enjoyed your podcast on eating raw and organic. it seems easy and doable for the person on the go. i like your relaxed approach. i definitely can feel a difference when my raw percentage is greater than my cooked. thanks for the great information. i would love to have your book for reference.

i did not realize that your prioritized eating organic more than raw. that was interesting.

WOW: What a great show this was. I downloaded two of your shows from itunes and this one was just as good as the one on The Flexitarian Diet. What hit me was when Rod Totondi said that eating organically is the most important thing, even over eating raw. When he explained that when you buy non-organic food, you are supporting the pesticide use, the poisoning of our planet, etc. The magic words for me were when he said that buy buying organics, we are CREATING THAT WORLD, that good, organic world. Thank you so much for this show. I will now become a regular listener. p.s. I’m going to run out and try Dulse.
